Once Upon a Design

In the latest special edition ink series, the friendly animal cast of Ferris Wheel Press find themselves on a journey all the way to Japan, where they visit the home of Ginza Tsutaya Books in their award-winning building, the GINZA SIX.

In this collection, we start by appreciating the modern architectural elements of GINZA SIX, which also houses 13 of the most renowned luxury fashion brands in the world. We then venture into the stunning Tsutaya Books store, where our Canadian animal friends explore the wood and brass-clad stationery floor. Finally, we find ourselves arriving at one of Tsutaya Books’ signature display cases, which showcase writing instruments, stationery treasures, and precious objects from all over the world. Discover all the details of their incredible shop through our latest Curious Collaborations Series ink collection.

Notable design details:

  • Animals from Ferris Wheel Press visiting the stationery floor of Tsutaya Books
  • Known for their chic, modern industrial interior design, they provide a comfortable environment to soak in an extensive collection of literature, art, as well as cultural and lifestyle goods.
  • Shop includes an extensive offering of books and magazines, a stunning art gallery, as well as whisky bar and cafe
  • Packaging features their recognizable service counter, created from modern wood paneling. Ink colour inspired by their brass display tables which house all of their products.
  • Notable items on shelves include:
    • “e-do no wagashi” which is a collaboration between Ginza Tsutaya Books and a wagashi( Japanese traditional snack) maker, which have over 100 years of history. Inside the product there’s cookies designed like a fountain pen’s nib and books shape (since we are a bookstore).
    • Kintsugi (金継ぎ) notebook. Kintsugi is a traditional technique usually used in repairing tablewares.
  • 6 animals visiting from Canada, can you find them all?

Favourite Ink

As someone who loves to work with different tones of brown ink in their art, Bookkeeper's Brass has become my favourite. Gorgeous brown.

Appealing colour

They really nailed the 'brass' colour for this ink. Shimmering inks are not, generally, my favorite, but I will suffers through the shimmer issues to use this ink.

We have had a lot of luck ordering with Ferris Wheel Press. Not only are the colours cool and ink writes very well, but they have amazing customer service. We ordered this ink during a sale around Christmas or New Years, and unfortunately when it shipped it got damaged. Upon receiving the damaged product, customer service was really easy to work with in getting the item replaced, and communicating on the timing of it to avoid further breakage during the next cold spell that was forecasted. Now that we have the replacement ink, it's a great addition to our growing collection!
