A Brownish Take on Red with Shimmer

I recently tried *Song of Scarlet* by Ferris Wheel Press, and while the ink has some interesting qualities, it wasn’t quite what I expected. The color leans more brownish than the vibrant scarlet red I had hoped for, which was a bit disappointing. It’s smooth to write with and performs well across a variety of papers—Apica A. Silky, Tomoe River, MD Paper, and Fabriano Ecoqua Plus—showing no feathering or ghosting.

The ink features a yellow sheen with a subtle blue glimmer, adding a bit of shimmer to your writing, though I would’ve preferred a more prominent red tone. While it’s dark enough to be suitable for everyday writing, it’s warmer in tone, making it ideal for those seeking a subtler ink. Unfortunately, this particular color didn’t capture my interest enough to buy again, but if you prefer warmer, darker shades, it may work for you.

A complicated red!

I love this ink! As for most shimmer inks, you have to use it in a wet writer or it may plug the nib, but it’s worth the gamble! I’m also impressed by how easy it is to clean the converter afterward.

This ink has a lovely purplish red colour and the shimmer adds character. It flows smoothly in my pen. Overall I love this ink, except for when the time comes to clean up the workspace. Warning: it was very stain-y.
